Does the scalp hair on my head naturally grow during the transition?
It depends. Testosterone is really good at killing hair follicles as is paternal baldness history. If you transition early enough the estrogen will preserve hair follicles. However once those follicles die, as in male pattern baldness, there isn't anything getting them back. Your only option then is a hair transplant.
Medications may help, but I have never heard of them being really effective and most have nasty side effects.
Finasteride helps stop hair loss and grows new hair by blocking DHT. Minoxidil doesn't stop hair loss, but it does help grow new hair thicker and faster than before. As I mentioned they are renowned for their side effects. Please look them up.
OK, I may have an answer too. When I took extra MSM, it not only seemed to enhance hair growth, but I began to get more color in my hair (and it left me feeling ten years younger!!). I only cut back...because it seemed to increase a tendency for an ingrown eyelash on my R eye (but I suspect this is an "oddball thing" particular to me). ; )
I usually take it with Chondroitin Sulfate and Gluconate Sulfate (in a combined formula)...for joints, ESPECIALLY for the spine (REALLY helpful)!! And, as a D.C., I know what I'm talking about!! ; )
