Hi all,
I am wanting to transition but don’t know where to start?
GP, Support group if I can find one, Counsellor or anything else?
I am starting on a long journey and want to start off the right way. I also appreciate everyone is different and what is right for one may not be right for all.
Amelia, welcome to our neck of the world. I do hope you are getting situated and seeing all there is here. Please let me know if you have any questions. Either I, or someone else, will make sure we reply back. I do so hope you will join us in the Chatroom. I enjoy chatting there a lot. If you look in Social -> Member Directory, you can search for other people that may be near by. Or under Places -> Local Places, you can search for all sorts of things that may be near you. Hope to see you chatting soon. Oh, and don't forget about digging through the Articles and Forums. Loads of information there. Hugs, Michelle
Hi Amelia,
Welcome! I’m pretty new to this too; after coming out to my wife my first step was finding a therapist specialising in working with lgbtq folk, which I did through Pink Therapy. Being able to talk openly for the first time at the same time as connecting with other people through here and on IG has really helped me understand what I needed to do.
dm me anytime

Amelia:
You are absolutely correct in using the term "journey". It is not the work of a minute. However, as many here will tell you, there is light at the end of the tunnel. I hope that your time here proves to be helpful.
It looks like you have the elements pretty well covered. The only thing I would say is that when you look for a therapist, finding one with experience with gender issues makes a big difference.
Thanks for completing your Profile page! I usually have to remind people to do that, but it really does have value. It helps other members to understand your situation and you can update it at any time as things change.

Thanks DeeAnn,
I am ecstatic that I have found a transgender counsellor local to me and am in process of arranging an appointment with her. Do I guess my journey is moving forward?
From my short time here I have found people to be friendly and approachable which is a big relief in my mind.
Thank You x
Very Good, Best of Luck to you!!
Hi Amelia,
Finding a trangender counselor and joining TGH are important steps to help you on your journey. I believe it's especially important to befriend and talk to other girls. There will be a lot of ups and downs on your journey. Having a network of friends can make things a lot easier. The girls here on TGH will be happy to lend an ear whenever you want to chat. I would encourage you to also seek friends that are local to you - that you can meet face to face. Socializing with other trans women fills a gap that can't be filled online. The member directory can help with that. There may also be some LGBTQ support groups near you that would be worth contacting.
Best of luck on your journey.
Hugs, Emily
