It would perhaps be an understatement to say that there is a lot going on in the world at the moment. In large and small ways the spread of COVID-19 has touched everyone in the US and around the world. The CDC provides good advice on how to maintain physical health and updates on the latest with the virus, yet many people I know are struggling with more than physical well-being.

Watching the media tout a growing infection rate or seeing empty grocery aisles can cause fear for one's health and ability to take care of their family. Seeing businesses temporarily close may extend that fear to one's finances. And at a time when many of us are most in need of connection and community support States are enacting "Shelter in place" laws that keep us apart and isolated.

It is only natural to feel afraid, and to yearn for connection with friends, family and your community. I encourage you to reach out in the forums and chatroom - to find connect with your community on Transgender Heaven. Sometimes the best way to encourage yourself is to encourage others. A kind word, a message or note of understanding go a long way. If you would like to share more I encourage you to author an article. For the next few months we will be featuring articles from our members encouraging Hope and Light through these troubling times.

Often when I feel uncertain or overwhelmed I find that music is a source of hope and salve for my soul. One of my favorite bands is Casting Crowns, and while they are a Christian group I think their message can apply across religious and spiritual traditions.

"I was sure by now, God you would have reached down and wiped our tears away.
Stepped in and saved the day. But once again I say, "Amen" and it's still raining
As the thunder rolls I barely hear you whisper through the rain, 'I'm with you.'"
- Casting Crowns, Praise You In This Storm

In times like this it can be easier to see the rain and be rocked by the thunder than feel the firm foundation of your creator or the universe under your feet. I'm with you in a smile from a family member, a text from a friend. I'm with you as the birds sing outside. I'm with you as a neighbor waves from across the street. I'm with you as your spouse holds you while you cry. I'm with you, I'm with you, I'm with you. Perhaps it's hard to see in the big moments, find a little one, then the next little one.

Maybe it's hard to find those little moments as well. That's okay.

"So when you're on your knees and answers seem so far away
You're not alone, stop holding on and just be held
Your world's not falling apart, it's falling into place
I'm on the throne, stop holding on and just be held"
- Casting Crowns, Just Be Held

Maybe this is the time for you to just be held. To know without evidence that you are going to be okay. Just be held. By your creator, or father, the universe, or nature.

As perhaps most needed in our times, I close with a Buddhist, Hindu and Yogi mantra that means Peace, Peace, Peace.

Om, shanti, shanti, shantihi

Amen, Venessa. Casting Crowns is one of my favorite groups.

I tend to rely on scripture. These words should be familiar to those of faith.

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

On my Facebook page I've been posting the latest recovery figures while everyone else has been focusing on the growing number of new cases. It's important in this time to remember that while there are a large number of deaths related to this pandemic the number of deaths are far outweighed by the number that survive.

I don't mean to make light of those deaths, but if we dwell on them, we are leading ourselves into a pit of despair. I continue to tell people the important thing right now is not to panic; we must keep our heads on straight. It's a bit trite to say this, since the saying has been used as the punch line of many jokes, but... this too shall pass.

I leave you with the rest of the above scripture.

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think on these things.…

I thought I would revisit this article as it meant so much to me when first published. Particularly as we seem to be headed back into the fall season when viruses such as COVID seem to flourish. For each and every one of our members:

HUGS!!!! We are with you and want to encourage you to hang on, you are not alone.

The greatest peace I have ever known is the moment I surrendered the fight and just allowed the emergence of my authentic self to take place.

This body is temporary, but "I" am eternal; I have tasted this and now, having stepped of the edge into the chasm, like Indiana Jones, I am grateful that the landing has been much softer than I had been lead to previously believe; I am grateful!

Dear Vanessa
and huggles for you sweet soul
