Hi, I’m transitioning mtf and have a community in the city where I live. I’m a psychotherapist the over 20 years of practice. I specialize in early childhood trauma, depression, anxiety, and PTSD. In the past could years I have transitioned my practice to working with cross dressers and trans folks who are coming out late in life. I’ve started this thread so any of you can ask me questions and get support. I’m aware we all come to our identity in our own way. I believe admitting that we have a girl trapped inside of us is coming into our authenticity.

So ask away or just tell us your story. I welcome feedback from others!

Hi, great topic.  I came out last year when I was 60,  certainly a bit later in life and it has had some definite challenges.   I think the biggest for me has been finding other trans women close to my age to meet and talk with.  My community has an LGBTQ center and does offer some zoom talks for trans people,  but I found them to be very disappointing mainly because all of the other people taking were literally decade’s younger than me.  No fault of theirs at all, but I was there looking for any kind of real advice as a newly out trans women, and they were chatting about skateboarding and video games.  Again, not their fault, just different age groups with different interests.   I think a big part of it is, as I’ve said to my therapist, I’m old enough that when I first realized I was supposed to be a girl, the term transgender hadn’t even been invented yet.  Now though, younger people can come to terms with being trans with so much more information and support available, which is great for them, but also difficult for them to remember or even realize people my age had it totally different.  I often wonder what life would have been like if I’d come out twenty or thirty years ago, but I didn’t.   I think life chose the time that was right and I’m just glad I am out now.

Congrats, Willow!!!

Yep, based on PT (Present Time)...and taking things--basically--on day at a time!!! There are also some supplements (and practices like Chiropractic) which can help to extend one's life...say another twenty years...or so. Now that things are working pretty well for me...HELL...I figure I wanna be around another thirty years ....or so.

I'm also going to have some minor surgery done on my foot. The GP told me I was silly....but I decided to talk to an "expert" (a podiatrist)...and HOORAY she AGREED WITH ME!!!! Sometimes you have to trust your own assessment....and be determined enough to REALLY investigate...until you get an answer!!!!
