Hi everyone. Hope everyone is having a good day.

This is an amendment to FIRE! In the past I was a Master Electrician (and Master Plumber) and wanted to share this information with the community.

When using electric space heaters in cold weather, the heater on high, this is a potentially dangerous situation. Electrical systems are designed to not exceed 75 percent of capacity, in the case of electric space heaters this includes the receptacle, the hidden wire connected to the receptacle and the heater itself. When on high the space heater is probably approaching the 75 percent threshold and the longer it stays on the worse the potential problems become due to heat buildup. The hidden wire attached to the receptacle experirinces expansion and contraction which in time creates looseness in the  connection which in time adds to heat buildup.

Here were I live homes catch fire and burn in late winter every year because of this happening and it's usually in the wee hours. Worst case; someone passes.

Please be careful out there Community when it's very cold! 😉.

What is do? When operating the electric space heaters on high regularly check the cord of the heater and the receptacle by touching it; if it's hot... DANGER!

Just food for thought about cold weather 😉.

@rikke Sage advice Rikke. And I would add, never, never, but never, run a space heater from your standard box-store extension cord...... Bad stuff may ensue. hugs
