I have written a number of articles recently here at TGH about my relatively new understanding and acceptance of my trans nature. One of those articles was about, "where do I go from here." Decision was the answer.

So I made one.

I decided "therapy", so taking a baby step, I found an online counseling service, filled out their personal assessment and was matched with a license therapist. My first session is tomorrow.

I was anxious to do so initially, but once done, I was surprisingly relieved and excited that I moved; . . . I actually moved in the direction of trans affirmation rather than trans suppression.
It should prove interesting and . . . liberating?
Kindly,
Charlene

@charlenev This is a significant step! These issues are very difficult to think about on our own as the mind wants to protect us from high stress situations. The mind does that by diverting our attentions to something else or allow us to be distracted or we just procrastinate. A therapist will work to keep us focused on the things that we need to think about and add to our knowledge of who we are.

That said, it is important to choose a therapist who has experience in gender issues as everyone does not have that particular background.

Good for you Charlene!  I worked with a counselor and I found it helped me significantly.  It helped me understand that my feelings were a normal part of the range of human conditions.  It also helped me significantly reduce my feelings of guilt and shame that my nurturing had instilled in me.  As a result,  it has allowed me to embrace my femineity and experience life in new and wonderful ways.   I'm now on a path to realizing my full authenticity.

Good luck to you and I hope you get everything you need and want out of the experience.

I am glad you decided to pursue therapy.   It has been a long while, but I learned a lot during my time in therapy, lessons that have stuck with me over the ensuing years.
