I live in Cathedral City which is adjacent to Palm Springs, California to the east. These represent 2 of the 9 cities here in the Coachella Valley. The cities range from nearly 5,000 to about 89,000 people. Palm Springs is at the northwestern end and it tends to be somewhat more socially and politically conservative towards the other end of The Valley. LGBT folks tend to think of Palm Springs in terms of a protective and tolerant oasis, or bubble, if you will.
However, let it be known that a trans woman was attacked outside of a downtown Palm Springs bar recently:
