The other day my wife and I were out shopping together in Myrtle Beach (we spend our winters here now) and a mother and daughter( about 12 years old) passes by us giggling and making nasty remarks about someone else in the store. Yes, the person they were verbally attacking was openly trans and proud of it.  No, the trans person did not come close to ‘passing’ nor obviously was trying to.
My jaw dropped in disbelief. Here is a bigot teaching her daughter to bully/hate another individual who they never met. Why does this continue? What could the mother or daughter gain from this? I am just sickened by this. I almost got involved but chose to stay silent to prevent a scene from developing which in the south, could turn violent in a flash.

@jillleanne When will it end? I fear never; sadly. There are people out there, that because of this bias, or that bias, just cannot grasp Martin Luther King's vision of judging someone because of their character, and not because of some exterior covering; skin, gender, clothes, accent, etc. Bigotry is as old as humankind, born from man's greed. We may temper it along the way, but unfortunately it is part of us all to some degree. But I for one will never give up that hope, "not because they are easy, but because they are hard; because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one we intend to win, and the others, too." So, thank you Jill, MLK, and JFK, for you have set the bar high, but,, in time, we will meet it. Hugs

@jillleanne The short answer is that it is easier to denigrate and dismiss rather than learn and accept. The latter requires time, effort and desire in order for people to educate themselves. The former only requires that they be comfortable in their ignorance and prejudice.
