Hi, my name is Owen and I am a trans man. I am out at home but I’m starting college soon and don’t know whether to tell everyone or not. I haven’t met anyone there before and wasn’t sure if they would take me seriously as I hardly ever pass in every day life. Should I just give them my birth name and deal with it as I won’t be starting t for ages. Or should I start with my preferred name and pronouns?
Any advise would be great.

Hi Owen ,

Really can't tell you what to do , but I would used my preferred pronouns and name. It will be a place where no one knows you ...it's like having a fresh start . Doesn't matter if you are not able to start T . You identify as male . Just be yourself be proud of who you are with head held high . People will respond in a positive way .

Hi Julie,

Thank you for answering. It was such a conforming thing to hear.

Hi Alexis, sorry I got your name wrong. I’m new to this app and got you mixed up with the notification underneath. I apologise.

Hi Owen,

From what I've heard most College students are positive and accepting so, even if you can't start T for quite a while it should still go well using your preferred/new name and pronouns.

Good luck with studies though and I hope you have a great time!

@inuyasha Hi Lir,

thanks for taking the time to give me some advice. I did, however, post this is 2021, but I’m happy to say that I did start college with my new name and pronouns and everyone was very welcoming.

Oops 😥, I guess I didn't pay close attention to the post date. I'm glad to hear that things went well though.
