Hey my name is Kassy (or Kass) and Iā€™m 30 residing from the northeast US. I recently have begun coming to terms that I am a trans girl after a few months of struggling to figure out my gender identity. Hoping to possibly connect with others like me as I haven't done much so before. (Darn social anxiety!)

Kassy, I hope you have found the links in the message I sent you helpful. Hoping into Chat is a great way to start finding and connecting. Also check out the Groups. Many are setup based on a geographic location, and others are based on things folks like for hobbies, etc. Michelle

Kassy:

Good to have you with us! I hope that you will enjoy the time that you spend here.

There are many here, like you, in the discovery stage. It is something that nearly everyone goes through. For some, it is a pretty straightforward process. However, for MANY others it is anything but. It is a really funky intersection of societal pressures and expectations along with realizing that we may be something very different from what we thought. Further, these are ALL uncharted waters; well with the possible exception of being able to connect with past lives perhaps!

Many members have found it helpful to work with professional therapists. It helps because it is very difficult for us to stay focused on something that may cause a complete upheaval in our lives. The human mind will attempt to avoid stress by diverting us to low stress, more pleasant thoughts. This is how procrastination works. It is an avoidance of doing, or at least considering, a difficult and stressful activity. Thinking about our gender identity, and what embracing it can lead to, is likely to be a major source of stress. One thing to note is that a therapist who has experience in gender issues is key. Not everyone has that experience or interest.

It is also helpful to be connected with the community in you area. Developing relationships with ones peers in the trans community goes a long way towards breaking down the sense of isolation that many experience. A positive consequence of the pandemic, if there is such a thing, is that many LGBT organizations are doing support groups and social gatherings over ZOOM or other communications software. This is a great help as it works against any pandemic-related fears with being in public and any transportation or scheduling issues.

I encourage you to complete your Profile page as it is a good start towards letting other know who you are and what your situation is. Your page will always be readily available and can be updated at any time.
