I just recently came out. As I expected my family is not taking it well. My father said he doesn't want me anywhere near him.

My heart goes out to you! What you are experiencing is what would have happened to me and a lot worse is what has kept me from transitioning until this year at age 63. I truly am sorry dear
Alexis, I am sorry to hear that. Sometimes families don't take it as well as we had hoped. And hopefully time will help remedy that, and close that gap. So never give up. And I hope you were able to get something done about your dog eating your glasses too!
But anyway, welcome to our neck of the world. I do hope you are getting situated and seeing all there is here. Please let me know if you have any questions. Either I, or someone else, will make sure we reply back. I do so hope you will join us in the Chatroom. I enjoy chatting there a lot. If you look in Social -> Member Directory, you can search for other people that may be near by. Or under Places -> Local Places, you can search for all sorts of things that may be near you. Hope to see you chatting soon. Oh, and don't forget about digging through the Articles and Forums. Loads of information there. Hugs, Michelle
Oh Alexis, I'm so sorry for you, I obviously don't know your family dynamics, but you found the strength to open up about yourself to your family, it may have been way too much for him to take in, time heals, just don't give up on being yourself. I'm new on TGH. The ladies are fantastic, warm and welcoming, and can offer a shoulder to cry on. Take care Alexis, stay strong to yourself.

Alexis:
You will see many here speak of a Journey, and that is exactly what it is. It isn’t quick and it isn’t easy and all we can do is the best that we can.
Regarding the concept of being transgender, some get it and some will eventually get it, but some never will. I guess that is to be expected that some cannot find it within themselves to go the distance; sad, but that is the reality. I do hope that your situation will eventually change, but that should have no bearing on your progress. Once you have started, it is important to keep moving. As always, maintaining motion is much easier than creating motion.
So, glad that you discovered us and I hope that being here will be a good experience for you...
