Hey all I'm a 40 year old trans woman at the beginning of my journey (I started late lol) I still present as Male but I am currently coming out to family and friends, (a cpl people know already but plucking up the courage to come out publicly) I'm on here to try and get advice, support and to generally get to know fellow gurls going through the same thing as me, Antonia x

Hi Seren thank you for the welcome, its comforting to know I'm not the only one who discovered themself later in life, I always knew since childhood I wanted to be female but tried to accept that I was born male, however I'm now at the point where I need to be myself for the sake of my own mental health, thanks again for the reply and hope the rest of the community is as friendly and welcoming 🙂 x

Antonia, welcome to our neck of the world. I do hope you are getting situated and seeing all there is here. Please let me know if you have any questions. Either I, or someone else, will make sure we reply back. I do so hope you will join us in the Chatroom. I enjoy chatting there a lot. If you look in Social -> Member Directory, you can search for other people that may be near by. Or under Places -> Local Places, you can search for all sorts of things that may be near you. Hope to see you chatting soon. Oh, and don't forget about digging through the Articles and Forums. Loads of information there. Hugs, Michelle

Antonia:

Glad you're here! I hope it will be a good experience for you.

Rest assured that probably most here have been where you are now or are living the experience as we speak. It is a hurdle that we have to figure out how to negotiate. Searching for other members near you from the Member Directory and resources in Local Places will be helpful. I suspect that a number of members never realize resources that may be close at hand because they have never been in a situation where it was needed. Many times people begin their posts with "I need to transition, but I don't know where to start.". Basically my point is that I don't think many of us start with knowing what to do or what should happen next.

By the way, are you working with a therapist? Many here have found that it is very helpful, however the trick is to find someone experienced in gender issues. While there are many good therapists out there, not everyone has the experience and interest.

Thanks for being quite thorough with your Profile page. It is quite an important thing to do. Eventually due to other threads being posted, this one (and MANY others) will eventually wind up at the bottom of the heap. To the contrary, the Profile page will always be available to give others a sense of where you are in your journey and what you are dealing with. Also, it can be updated at any time if something changes for you. As a matter of fact I just updated mine yesterday as I've been meaning to add my latest volunteer project.

Be Well and Welcome!

Hi DeeAnn thank you for all the info, no i havent got a therapist at the moment, I've been to my gp and I have been referred to a gender specialist, unfortunately on the NHS in the UK there is a 2 year waiting list to see said specialist so its saving the Penny's and trying to go private for that part I think x

My wife is on a couple of international forums for spinal cord injury patients and she is in communication with a number of folks from the UK. She’s told me some of the horror stories from people who sought help from the National Health Service. If I read it correctly, it seems to be a bad intersection of understaffed and underfunded. Is that your perception?
