Anna:

You found us! Very Good!

And yes, accepting ourselves and making peace with that is the first step. There is no way around it. If we don’t come to terms with that, no one will ever believe what we tell them. In a way, it is a bit of an intangible, but it has the effect of creating a firm foundation and a place from which to move forward.

Many here have had very good experiences from working with a therapist. Reason being is that it is difficult to think about something that has a great potential to alter just about every facet of ones life. It is very scary to think about and we often get frustrated and avoid any sort of conscious deliberation. That’s where the therapist helps by asking the right questions and help keep you focused on what’s going on for you. However, it is important to have a therapist who has experience with gender issues. Many good therapists don’t have this particular expertise.

I would also suggest doing some searching to see if there are any LGBT centers, trans support groups, etc. that are nearby. Being with other trans people helps to break down the isolation that many feel. But, rest assured that you are NOT the only one. We are everywhere, but the trick sometimes is to find us!

We have a way to search our member database for others who may be close by, if you like. Click on SOCIAL in the menu and then Member Directory.

Also, please complete your Profile page. It helps other members to understand what’s going on for you. It will always be readily available and can be updated at any time.
