Hi, I’m new to this site. My name is Emily, and I'm an mtf trans woman who loves to travel and likes making art and playing all kinds of sports. I’m committed to self improvement, and prioritising happiness, contentment and fulfilment, for myself and others.

My journey is somewhat unique in that I decided to transition when I was young, irrespective of what my parents wanted. At the age of 12, I remember in sex education class learning about puberty, and contemplating how to prevent and redirect mine.

After learning about the journey, trials and tribulations of other trans people, I consider myself very lucky with my transition journey (expressing my femininity early on, a supportive friend who changed my life, access to high quality affordable HRT, acceptance amongst friends and partners etc.). I hope to be able to make new friends, support others on their journey and exchange useful tips.

<p style="text-align: left;">Emily,</p>
I believe I wish to congratulate you for standing your ground at age 12. I'd like to hear your family story, meaning your parents and their attitudes/reactions, ages and genders if any sibs, and genders of playmates.

Also, we hear now about new laws in several states banning transition for adolescents and preadolescents.  My opinion has been the decision should be made carefully with the help of loving parents, seasoned professionals, and of course the individual as how to proceed. I think we can all agree these decions should not be taken lightly.

As an aside, I am now 68 and started my hormonal therapy late in 2021. I had my vaginoplasty this past March. I still would love to find a way to convert my memories as a child, even baby, to be of a girl rather than a boy. I'm going to guess you may have an interesting response about your own memories of that time in your life.

Emily:

Glad to have you with us and I hope that being here will be helpful as your journey continues.

I also consider myself fortunate, but for opposite reasons. I came out in 2015 at the age of 67. It wasn’t until sometime later that I realized that the vast majority of things that can happen to trans people didn’t apply to me. Now, since I am retired, I am able to have the time to be visible and a part of organizations that interest me and are doing good work. Also, when I was younger, I traveled a lot for work, domestically and internationally, and my 1st wife and I had two kids. There was precious time left over for anything else.

What you will find here is quite a unique community. Across the membership, many countries and ethnic backgrounds are represented, as well as virtually all points on the gender spectrum. In addition to trans people, there are folks here to figure out how they can support the trans people in their lives. All this provides for a richness of perspectives and thoughts. We also get a sense of the strengths and weaknesses regarding the healthcare system for trans people in different countries as well as the politics involved.

Thanks for completing your Profile page. That is very helpful as it provides a way for others to begin to know you and understand your situation. Remember that while threads eventually sink to the bottom of the pile, your page will always be readily available and can be updated at any time if something changes for you.

We have a number of members here from the UK. I encourage folks to search the member database for other members in their area and reach out. Click on Social in the menu and then Member Directory.

Welcome Emily. It is always good to hear that you have friends and even a supportive partner. Very good that you were able to start at such a young age.
