Hi Everyone,

I just joined TGH a few minutes ago.  I am thrilled to be here with all of you.

I have been exploring my MtF transition options with my counselor off/on for the past 3 years.  I have decided to move forward with the HRT treatments despite being an older person.

My first appointment with the provider is on Tuesday.  I am both excited and very nervous.

I welcome any helpful insights from members who are going through the process for the first time now or from those who have undergone years of treatments.

Thank you,

Jackie

Hi Jackie,

I'm Kimberly welcome to Tgh.

It's never too late to start your transition. I'm 53 and started Hrt back in December, so just over 6 months in and I'm happy with how things are changing. I know this is a big step and I wish you the best moving forward.

You came to the right place, I have learned so much knowledge and have gotten so much support here.

I'm part of the Chat Crew here, so I hope to see you on chat sometime soon.

Hugs

Kimberly

@kimberlyshaw Hi Kimberly,

I applaud you for moving forward with your transition at age 53.  I am 72.  I should have transitioned many years ago when the desires first started to manifest within me. I hope that I am not too late for a healthy transition.

Since you are 7 months ahead of me, I hope you don't mind if I pick your brain about the changes you have noticed during your transition.  I am curious about the physical, emotional and mental changes that you have been experiencing.

Have you been receiving injections, taking the pills or going trans-derma?

My initial consult at Planned Parenthood is on Tuesday.  I presume that will entail a comprehensive description of what steps are involved, what delivery methods are available and an estimate of when various results will be noticed. They may be asking questions about my level of gender dysphoria, if any.  Unsure if they are also expecting a signed acknowledgment from my wife about my decision to start HRT. She has been very supportive of my secret cross dressing but is more concerned about the health risks and overall acceptance levels from family, friends, neighbors and co-workers.

I was informed that I may be given the opportunity to get my first treatment during the initial consult if they are comfortable with my commitment.  Alternatively they may suggest that I take a few days to think things over, talk to my wife and then schedule my first treatment for the following week.

What are your thoughts and recommendations Kimberly?

Thank you for any insights that you are willing to share.

Jackie

Hi Jackie,

It is said you are never too old to start your transition. I am happy to hear you've begun. I do hope, challenges notwithstanding, that this part of your journey  to living authentically proves ever so special..

Welcome to this special place like-minded women.

Kindly,

Charlene

@charlenev

Thank you for your warm welcome and supportive words Charlene.

Living an authentic life as a woman is long overdue. I wish that I had started my transition many years ago but here I am now at age 72.  I am hoping that age will not be a factor in starting my journey in the next week or two. 🙏🏻

My transition counselor has been very supportive during my independent private shrink sessions.  She thought I was ready 4 years ago when I bailed out at the last moment.  She believes that I am even more ready now. She reminded me that at the end of life we often regret the decisions that we did not make much more than the ones we did make.

My initial consultation with Planned Parenthood is on Tuesday.  If that goes well, they will give me the option to begin treatments that day or wait another week to think things over and update my wife.

My wife has been very supportive of my discreet cross dressing.  However she is concerned about the potential health risks at my age.  She is also concerned about the acceptance levels from our large family, friends, neighbors and my co-workers.

I welcome any insights that you may have Charlene.

Jackie
