Hello! My name is Jaxon, I’m reaching out to trans communities for insight and wisdom on how I can approach my upcoming program (which is still in the baby stages). If you’d like to know more about the program, just ask! I’ll be more than happy to share and receive feedback. Thanks to all!

Hi Jaxon.  I googled your city for LGBT and it looks like there may be some things already there.  Are any of these potential partners in what you want to do?

Hello,

I am interested, but no one seems to want to meet up with me no matter how many times I try to contact them. So it has forced me to check out other sites to ask for a helping hand so I am able to jump starting my program. I've been offered a safe reliable space through the gay bar  for meetings, events, fundraising, etc., as I used to volunteer for the owner 15 years ago. The idea of starting this solo is to gradually get a set in stone peer support system for the city, as we do not have anything like it, then gradually bring support workers for other LGBTQ+ persons who needs just an ear or a coffee etc.

Hello, welcome to the site.  And you have hit the nail right on the head.  Almost no one wants to meet, either too scared or not able.  When girls go to the bathroom they take a friend, guys piss alone.  It can get really odd if the guy standing next to you holding his junk try's to talk to you about fashion trends or his latest crush.  Try it and see what I mean.  😄

As girls we want that friend and need them actually to feel comfortable.  But as guys living a lie we are stuck doing guy stuff.  So being trans get mighty tricky when meeting strangers, hell it is hard even for the cis folk, but add phobias, fears, etc for a trans person and it can get down right tough.  I have met my fair share of trans people at meetings and online both of which end in that cup of coffee after a girls night out.  For online you are looking at 3% of 3% will actually meet, IE: 1 out of 33 will respond and be decent enough to connect online, and 1 out of 33 of those will actually meet and not stand you up.  So the odds are you need to do more fishing.  Meetings are better odds as they already got over the coming out fear.

Your group sounds like it could help the community, where are you?  Did you search support groups and meetup groups for ideas?  LGBT folk/groups might be able to help you too but do not count on them being involved unless you find some really nice people.

I'm in Prince George British Columbia in Canada. The direction I'm going is definately the right one there is no peer outreach support. I have gone to other meetings approaching people asking if they feel it's nessecary to have peer outreach. They have agreed with me on different occasions that it is needed for the community, The LGBTQ+ community is very divided to individual groups (which is sad to watch). Given the stats for that I felt it was time to push on since it has been acknowledged, and to break the known divide to put peer support work under one roof.

Also I'm at week 5 of hard core searching for ways to be able to pull this off appropriately. I have established a safe meeting place, I meet up with the owner in a couple of weeks to establish boundaries, goals, etc.. I also deal a fair bit with the Transgender Clinic here in town, as I have helped with information to build the clinic.
