Hi. I am not trans but I want to make sure I am respectful. I would like advice on dead names. Can anyone give me guidance?
My friends and I have been discussing an online personality. His husband is a biological female but identifies as male. They (the couple) are having legal issues. Their story is not really important... My question is when relaying a long story and someone's entire life is it out of line to use dead names? To reduce confusion? For example "he was born a biological female and was given this name. This this time as (female name) this happened.Β When they got older they began to transition and took the name (male name) then this happened..."
Some people say this is disrespectful. I just don't want to be a jerk.
Does it add to the story to use the deadname?Β The answer is no, so find other ways to structure the story to avoid being rude.
