seems to always come full circle. Back in the mid-80s I was working for IBM and we had to attend a class on ESD (computer thing), and since I was stationed in SoCal at the time, they sent someone out to give all the engineers on the west coast the class down in San Diego. Rumors about the person they were sending out were very derogatory regarding their lifestyle (read between the lines). I remember thinking, 'so what how they want to live'. Years later the rumors changed to include 'transitioning'. Yep, I know, the 'horror' of that (sarcasm). Again I'm thinking, 'okay, so....'. And then about 3 years ago, while digging through the Internet Archives, I came upon Issue 47 of the TV-TS Tapestry magazine from 1985, and there is an article she wrote about a 'Poconos Outing'; and it's by her. That was such a great feeling to read that and know that, way back when, I knew her. And I think I'm a better person for it, and for not getting caught up in all the trash that other's we saying. But she pushed through it. I just treated her like anyone else would want to be treated, with respect and dignity.
The eighties were an awful time to be a transsexual or gay. One could lose their job if they were outed. I remember buying Tapestry magazine in the adult store on Brook Park near the Cleveland Airport. Yes, I drove all the way from Toledo to Cleveland because I was scared and ashamed of being a closeted gay crossdresser. I wonder if the Tapestry is still being published. What a wonderful magazine!!!
