Here's one of my early transgender memories. It's one of the few powerful ones that I think set me into a more positive mindset.

When I was young in the 1980's and still in a confused state about it all, I distinctly recall the music star Madonna being quoted about people who were criticizing MTF crossdressing. She said something along the lines of "If it's bad to look like a woman, it must be really bad to actually be a woman."

It was then when I had an epiphany of my own. Of course it's not bad to be a woman. Therefore, how could it possibly be bad to look like one? Are the trappings of the opposite gender really so offensive as to be not worthy of emulation? So much of gender seems to be such a social construct.

Anyway, it was just a little thing that said a lot to me, and I remember it as one of the artifacts that I've stumbled on during my journey.
