Hi Everyone. I am Rachel.

I have decide that I am going to see a therapist and tell him/her that I am Transgender. I have never been to a therapist before so I have no idea how to say that and I am cold sweating even thinking about it. What if the therapist thinks that all of my thoughts are just rubbish and prescribes me some anti-depressants ? How do I convince my therapist that my thoughts are not just a whim ?

Rachel, a good therapist will help you figure out your truth, not tell you what it is.Β  You should look for a therapist who is experienced with gender issues.Β  Β "Interview" them too to fid out how they help transgender people.Β  Finding a therapist was the best thing I did for myself, so don't fret it and if you have questions or concerns you know where to find us πŸ˜‰

Hugs, Cloe

Hi Rachel,

As Cloe mentioned your therapist/counselor should have some background in gender issues. This is not something that just any Psychiatrist or counselor is used to or trained for. You shouldn’t be too concerned about anyone prescribing meds for you because you really don’t have to take them if you don’t want to. If you don’t click with the therapist you don’t have to see them you can walk away and find another until you are with one who feels right for you. And as Cloe mentioned sis, we are here for you and to support you. We are all in this beautiful place together for love and support. Good luck! TTFNπŸ’‹πŸ‘

Rachel....honey......as the saying goes...."Damn the torpedos...full steam ahead"! Therapists are usually genuinely sympathetic and helpful or the would not be one very long. Best case scenario would be one who deals with gender issues but they can be hard to find. If they keep up with updating their skills....they should be able to help you, if not, at least recommend someone who can. Feel free to ask me anything you would ask a therapist......I could help you with info on the subject. Best of luck.....
