It's tough to lose a friend when you have so few nearby friends to begin with. I didn't realize how much time I was spending with my friend till she was gone. The lonely days were spent thinking of her which just made it worse. I recently adopted a cat from the local shelter. My new friend instinctively knew when I was feeling blue. Jumping into my lap and watch television with me. It always makes me smile to scratch that head and say " thank you ..... Wendie ....".Β
Β I've found the pets I've had all help with companionship. Even though I've only lived alone for a part of my life I love the friendship the right animal pet can provide. The friendship is different, and more unconditional than any human can give. Right now my main furry squeeze is a rabbit I call Chopin, after the 19th century composer and pianist.

I have two cats and they're the perfect pets.Β They so affection and don't need constant attention like dogs.Β They let me know when they want to be fed. lol

I had a little buddy a chihuahua he slept with me every night one morning as I awoke he lay still and unresponsive I rushed him to the vet only to be told he had passed he was old Β it hurt. I now live alone
I'm not a pet person. Whether that reflects badly on me, I don't know, but I wouldn't want to be responsible for an animal's needs. Although I live an isolated life (not by choice), I don't feel the slightest desire to share it with a non-human. I've a friend with a dog and I'm sure that our friendship would only improve if he didn't have that dog, as it takes up so much of his time, attention and resources.
Personally, I find pets to be very helpful with combatting loneliness by providing love and emotional support. I currently have a cat and she will jump up on my lap and snuggle with me when I am sick or sad or having a rough day or she just wants my company. She also curls up beside me while I'm playing videogames. I am also her emotional support as she seems to get nightmares and wakes up in a bit of a fright, so I comfort her and let her know she's safe. (she's a rescue cat that we adopted, they found her living under a house when her previous family moved and abandoned her.)
Do pets help with loneliness ......
Yes the do help in dealing with those feelings of loneliness . Sieben ( 7 in German ) is a big part of my life and would be lost with out him . The relationship we develop matures over time and we really get to know each other , no different if they are a human . And I must say it is fun watching them do their weird stuff which still amazes me Sieben knows when i'm down in dumps , depressed , sad or just need a hug ( it's the only time he likes to be pick up )Β
His pur is a weird one and very load , but yet so soothing , inner peace . No matter how I feel or want I do around the house , he is always there for me with unconditional love , than again it just might be that there is food in his dish !Β
