As a tax accountant I heard these stories on a regular basis sadly. I would suggest you speak with a lawyer in your area. If you cannot afford one, there are many that will provide a basic visit pro bono. Just make some calls. If you decide to move forward be prepared for some sleepless nights as these types of issues are never pleasant.
