FIDE says that players have to provide sufficient proof of their gender change that complies with their national laws and regulations. This to me is a “get out of jail free” card for FIDE.
Presumably, they’re letting each nation’s human rights laws determine who gets to play chess. However, other sports governing bodies have stricter rules that clash with national laws. In Canada, for example, we my NOT be able to host some sporting events since many now excluded trans women from competing as women. Canadian human rights laws protect one’s gender identiy and gender expression which could mean that FIDE will comply with our laws, but I’m not holding my breath.
I say to the all sports governing bodies who ban trans women from cometing as women, “Good Riddence!!”.
