Thanks again, DeeAnn. I’ve benefited so much from the help the local group as well as CDH so in a way I’m paying it forward trying to help out other new ones who are either alone or confused, which is what I still am!
The group needed some new leadership and I was asked if I could step into the role. I’ve done other leadership positions in different volunteer groups in the past so that part of it isn’t so much a of a challenge. It’s people’s fear which is so different. The last Pub Night, which is held near the “Village” (LGBTQ) in downtown Toronto as I was walking back to my car I saw someone coming towards me who certainly looked like a trans person, then greeted me by name! I do post a cover picture of myself.
She was sitting in her car for the last hour+ and only then got up the courage to come in! She also told me this was the fifth time she’d come out, only to have fear get the better of her and then drive back home without meeting us!
Fortunately the ice has now been broken and hopefully she will come out more often!
