Biggest part of my life was finally coming out as a trans female.Growing up,knew I was hurting inside somehow.I realized at the age of 8 feeling I was really a girl and it was tough keeping it in the closet. For a long time I kept it and finally came out in January of this year. Some knew I was hurting inside and know I am no longer in  pain.Married,my wife Alley decided to stay with me and supportive. She sees I am the same person much happier. My family was divided at first. My dad, older brother and younger sister accepted it and are supportive. They do call me Debra Michelle most of the time using the pronouns she and her now.Mom,it did take time for her to accept this and now supportive.I gave her space to think about it not rushing her.Work,I did write a letter coming out and it has been positive. My co workers and boss have been great to me,see I am much happier adjusting to the changes very well.A high school math and Algebra teacher,My students have learned from me and most have been great to me.See me as the same teacher with a better life.My future, not going to transition since I am completely happy I see myself as.I thought this over,it would of been a huge regret if I transitioned.

      Hi Debra,

I’m glad you are having such a great experience, especially as a high school teacher.  That’s wonderful!

I have come out to a few people, mostly family and a couple of coworkers who are very trustworthy and have kept it confidential.  I am hesitant to come out totally at work.  I work at a prison as a teacher.  I always have this feeling that the prisoners (my students) would not be accepting at all and that some of the officers (guards) would not be accepting either.  I’m also not sure about some of the others in our immediate office area (programs, etc.).  But, I am glad it has worked for you.  I have to have more courage.

        Hi
Me again. Sorry I should have mentioned that I have just started hormone treatments. Started just over 6 weeks ago, so there are no changes yet.
