- On Thursday, May 11, 2023, I had the pleasure of presenting 5 of the 23 Burton/May Scholarship Award winners, with Eric Ornelas, at the 2023 Harvey Milk Diversity Breakfast in Palm Springs. Eric talked about the Safe Schools Desert Cities organization (and is the current President) and I talked about the recipients. I’ve been part of the committee that does the event for several years now. The students never cease to amaze with their talent, intelligence, their vision for the future and their dedication towards making things right for all. As always, I continue to be deeply impressed.
In addition, the Harvey B. Milk Leadership Award went to Ricardo Lara, California Insurance Commissioner.
All of the proceeds from the Breakfast goes towards the work of Safe Schools Desert Cities. Their brochure is:

A friend of mine took this photo. He said that he took at least 10 others before he got this of me looking in his direction. Truth is that I had no idea of where he was sitting!
