As far as timing goes, I think what is important is timing. Often we do wish that we had done, or started, something sooner. However, the question is whether or not we were ready. Maybe so; maybe not.
If you want to look for other members in your area, click on Social in the menu and then Member Directory.
I encourage you to complete your Profile page. It helps other members understand you and your situation better. Your Profile page remains readily available and may be updated at any time.
