I spent a couple hours at the salon today. I got a slight trim and a few highlights added.

I have always felt I was a girl ever since being dressed as one when I was 4 years old. At the age of 56, I finally started my full transition to become female. I began female hormones (HRT) on Sept. 25, 2018. After a month of coming out to everyone I know and the world at large, I began being myself full time on May 19, 2019. My legal name and gender marker changes on all my legal documents and ID’s at the Federal and State levels were all completed by June 12, 2019. Currently I’m making preparations for GRS and Breast Augmentation surgeries. On Jan. 16, 2020, my spouse and I made the decision to move forward with this. At my February 11, 2020 gender appointment, I informed my PCP that I want GRS and then at my June 12, 2020 gender appointment, I added Breast Augmentation (BA) to that request. On July 1, 2020, I flew to Spokane for my scheduled 90 min. GRS consult with my surgeon, Dr. Stiller which took place on July 2, 2020. He managed to also complete an unscheduled 60 min. BA consult too (more on that below). All 3 letters of recommendation for BA surgery were submitted on July 8, 2020 and on August 7, 2020, I received my Letter of Approval from my insurance for my Breast Augmentation. One recent change (mentioned above) was made in mid-June. I decided to get a breast augmentation in addition to GRS. A set of 500cc silicone gel breast implants will be used to augment my breasts and the surgery will also be performed by Dr. Stiller. The BA procedure will happen during the two week period when I’ll still be recovering in Spokane from the first of my two GRS surgeries. Currently, I fit into most B cup bras but have always wanted larger breasts. The BA will give me the an equivalent D cup which is a size larger than I thought I wanted. I worked with Dr. Stiller and team and tried on different size forms to find one that fit my frame well and weighed what was appropriate for me. I decided to move forward with breast augmentation since I’m coming up on 2 years of HRT in Sept. and not too much more growth is expected at this point. Both of my therapists included this as a behavioral health need for me in their letters of recommendation for Dr. Stiller and my insurance. All 4 letters of recommendation for the GRS have been submitted—one from my PCP, one from my HRT prescriber, and one from each of my therapists. My last therapist letter—the final piece to the puzzle was completed on July 17, 2020. This is the same date the insurance approval process has started. Dr. Stiller‘s surgical coordinator said it usually takes my insurance 6-8 weeks to get an approval for surgery. I’m still technically awaiting GRS approval but because the insurance approved my BA, Dr. Stiller’s team is confident GRS will also soon be approved. Dr. Stiller and his team are unfortunately booked out until 2021 now due to the covid setbacks. On Aug. 17, 2020, Dr. Stiller’s team contacted me and I received my surgery dates. I will have vaginoplasty [first stage] surgery on January 5, 2021 and my Breast Augmentation surgery date is January 15, 2021. The vaginoplasty [second stage] date will be scheduled two weeks after my first vaginoplasty surgery and will be sometime in June 2021. So far, transitioning medically and socially has calmed my previously uneasy spirit, made me a much happier person excited about my future. I'm very hopeful that transitioning to female will continue to smooth out my rough edges and help me to better present myself as female physically, socially and emotionally. I'm taking my transition very slow and will continue to feminize myself a little bit at a time. I’m finally free to be myself as I was always intended to be. It has been one of the best life decisions I've ever made for myself!💗 Susan R🌷

Susan, That is beautiful and inspirational. Being a older girl, I applaud you for moving forward to really make this dream a reality. I dream that I too, will experience all of this. I am only 6 months on HRT but it is progressing. My doctor has been spot on with my changes timeline. I can only enjoy the journey .After reading your story gives me so much to look forward to. Thanks for sharing
