The City of Albuquerque’s Los Griegos Center staff provides emergency food, utility and rental assistance, as well as community meeting rooms and seasonal services and activities to residents of the Northeast Heights, Northwest Valley, and the North Westside areas of Albuquerque. In  the early 1980’s, AIDS was devastating the LGBTQ community by financial ruin and ending many lives too early. Concerned individuals began buying and distributing food to people from the trunks of their cars. The effort grew to become what we now know as Martha’s Pantry. Our clients have the opportunity to choose from lists of food and additional household items, such as: A variety of personal hygiene and toiletry items. NAMI Minnesota (National Alliance on Mental Illness) is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of children and adults with mental illnesses and their families. For over 40 years, NAMI Minnesota has worked to promote the development of community mental health programs and services, change public attitudes about mental illnesses, improve access to services and increase opportunities for recovery. Suicide Ecoute comes to the aid of those who are thinking of ending their lives or have decided to do so. Suicide Ecoute allows everyone, in complete anonymity, to express their suffering. To break the wall of silence, our volunteers listen to people in distress and help them to express their unhappiness. They establish a relationship of trust with the caller, so as to make it easier to put their discomfort into words. Suicide Ecoute offers listening to people who are suffering both psychologically and physically, whether they are considering taking action or not.
