I was the first electrologist in Indiana to work for a doctor. In 1985 electrologists had to be located in beauty shops – I changed that! Today several Indiana dermatologists employ electrologists. Electrologists can also now have private clinics such as mine. I left the Dermatology Clinic of Muncie, Inc. to open Muncie Electrology Clinic (MEC) in 1991 to allow my patients more flexible hours. I use the strictest sterilization and sanitation procedures at MEC, and I exceed the safety standards set by the Center of Disease Control (CDC).
I instigated, then chaired, the committee for the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency for Cosmetology Examiners (State Board) that wrote the current electrology school rules and regulations. I remain available for counsel with the state board. Indiana began requiring continuing education (CEU) to remain licensed. I assisted in making the Indiana Electrolysis Association meetings count toward this new requirement.
I was the Indiana Electrolysis Association newsletter editor for two years and president for four years. During my presidency I set up the association’s education programs to meet the national continuing education requirements.
