About fifteen years ago, I had a vision to build a retirement community for LGBT people. Being biased, the focus would be towards the trans community. The vision then was to build a three theme complex; a retirement unit for self care individuals, a nursing unit that would care for those who cannot care for themselves, and a third unit for those that require respite care. My original concept had indoor pools, bowling alley, and an outdoor park with benches and fountains. Meals and snacks of course depending on requirements. The retirement units would accommodate small pets with a pet park for exercise.
A non denominational chapel would be incorporated into the complex for those who want to express their faith. Service would be televised to rooms for those who cannot attend in person.
Staffing would include full time registered nurses where required, and all staff will be LGBT themselves or trained to an LGBT Certified standard, that’s right, we would work with the medical community to establish a certification program that would qualify someone to work there.
Here we are fifteen years later and no one anywhere has done this to my knowledge. Obviously the cost today has ballooned since my original concept, but still doable.
This is the general concept. There are a lot more ideas I had incorporated into this but I’ll save them for another day.
Any thoughts?1 user thanked author for this post.
